medium horizons
film photographyMedium Horizons: Malta in Medium Format captures the untold vistas of Malta, exploring landscapes that have never been documented on medium format film. This project bridges a historical gap in Maltese visual documentation by preserving scenes that have vanished, transformed, or been overlooked. Through the use of medium format and 35mm cameras, these landscapes are brought to life with rich detail, depth, and texture, offering a fresh, high-definition perspective on Malta’s evolving beauty.
The project serves as an ode to a visual history that could have been, reflecting on how Malta’s cultural heritage might have been documented and how memory transforms landscapes over time. Each shot meditates on both the passage of time and the changing nature of the Maltese islands.
As part of my practice the captured imagery will also be fed into a machine learning algorithm I am developing, where it will be used to generate new AI-driven visual interpretations of Malta’s landscapes. This fusion of archival photography and AI allows the project to transcend traditional boundaries, blending historical preservation with forward-looking experimentation, and reimagining Malta’s ever-changing scenery through machine-generated imagery.
